Open basketball practices are always a great way for coaches to expand their knowledge and rejuvenate their creativity. Coach Rob Senderoff's teams are known for their offensive execution and late game efficiency (Coach Senderoff has a 64% winning percentage in games decided by five points or less). This video will be a great addition to your library as you get to see Coach Senderoff put his team through a mid-season practice and see how they prepare for game day!

Individual and Small Group Drills

Practice begins with skill work. Players do ball handling drills where they develop their skills with two basketballs and then move on to a 2-on-0 layup drill to work on different finishes.

Next, Coach Senderoff has his players work on passing and cutting within the framework of their offense. The Consecutive Extra Pass and Consecutive Post Feeds drills work on player timing and reaction with their flow offense. Passing off drives and kicks as well as cutting and screening after post feeds are covered.

Rebounding can win or lose games. The next two drills you'll see emphasize different block outs and crashing the boards aggressively. The Offensive Rebound Extra Pass drill combines crashing the boards with post kick-outs and immediate paint attacks, which will develop an aggressive mindset in your players.

Offensive and Defensive Drills

The next portion of practice is dedicated to offense and defense drills. You'll observe players learning to handle pressure with the Virginia Drill and Ball Pressure Drill. Transition offense is covered as well, and you'll see the Golden Flashes run a variety of different options within 30 seconds. Kick-aheads, post feeds, ball screens, and more are discussed and practiced while running full speed.

Next, Coach Senderoff has his team run through their different ball screen coverages in a full 5-on-5 setting. Coaching both sides of the ball simultaneously, you will see how Senderoff maximizes his time in this drill. You will see how they switch the ball screen and apply pressure with traps in the half-court.

Offense-Defense-Offense

To close practice, the Golden Flashes run O-D-O. Here, you will pick up a few half-court sets to add to your playbook. Players start off running a half-court set, quickly convert to transition defense, and then go back to transition offense. Once that sequence is complete, the team that started on defense changes to offense and they run a new half-court set.

You will get a little bit of everything to run an efficient, high intensity practice in this open practice video. If you are looking for a little extra something to add to your practice plan or arsenal of drills, or even a fresh half-court set or two, look no further than this video with Rob Senderoff!

63 minutes. 2021.
