Mike Neighbors has developed one of the best offenses in the country at any level of collegiate basketball with his "Functionally Fast" philosophy. In this video, you will learn how the Arkansas Razorbacks have constructed this offense through drills, priorities, terminology, and more.
Building an Offense
Coach Neighbors explains the different fast break responsibilities for the positions in his transition offense. Each player has a specific job that must be executed to the best of their ability for this fast break to reach the excellence it has achieved over the last several seasons. Through the "Trips" and "Five Trips" drills, you will see how you can train the primary options in the fast break attack. These options will help you score within seconds!
You will also learn about the different considerations that have been thought through to develop this style of play. Neighbors shares questions and insights that can help an offensive system maximize its potential. You will gain ideas for improving decision-making in your players, roster selection, using specific language, measuring effective offense, and more.
Effective offenses generate the most shots for the best players on the team. This requires players to have an understanding of their role on the team and good shot selection. Coach Neighbors has developed a system that can help. He explains his "Green Light Series" for determining shot selection and demonstrates two drills from this program. "And 1 Shooting" will challenge players to complete ever-increasing shooting requirements before time expires. You'll also learn how Arkansas uses their own version of "Beat the Pro" to determine if players have earned a shooting license in their program.
Plays and Drills
Coach Neighbors demonstrates how his offensive system flows into highly customizable "Families". These alignments can incorporate a variety of actions through a highly organized play calling system that every coach should study. This format allows you to create a diverse library of plays in a manner that is easy for your players to understand. You will learn three options to the "Twirl" series that combines ball screens with additional screening actions. You will also see how the "Flash" series can feature numerous options through player reads or calls from the bench. Coach Neighbors has generated game-winning plays that have rarely been practiced because of the clarity to this offensive system.
You will also get two amazing scrimmage drills that can be used to develop a high-speed offense. The "Quick Strike" drill rewards teams for scoring quickly with its novel point system. Another scrimmage format challenges players to win three possessions in a row on both sides of the ball. These can be momentum-shifting sequences that help you crush the morale of your opponent!
This video will show you many reasons why the Arkansas Razorbacks have become one of the most efficient offenses in the country!
