You're invited to watch one of the best college coaches in today's game work with one of the best teams in the country! Coach Bill Self has dominated the Big 12 Conference for years at the University of Kansas. In this video, you will see how he develops powerhouse teams with an emphasis on skill development, defense, baseline inbound plays, and 5-on-5 play.

Defensive Absolutes

Learn the three essential elements that Coach Self emphasizes in his man-to-man defense that will prevent easy baskets for the opponent. Through extensive lecture segments, Self personally discusses why his coaching staff statistically tracks "energy points" in practices in addition to the unique benefits and challenges of playing with different sized lineups. You will get new ideas for improving your team's rebounding with Coach Self's thoughts on rebounding technique that most realistically translates to games, how to statistically measure rebounding effort in competition, the importance of fighting for loose balls, and strategies for crashing the glass on offense, or double teaming a strong rebounder on the defensive block out. You will also learn how to get back in transition defense while maintaining pressure on the boards.

You'll learn how to implement Self's 4-on-4 defensive drill that teaches players how to guard ball screens. In particular, Coach Self expands on the teaching points for "icing" the ball screen with whiteboard explanations and on-court demonstration.

Learn from the best to see how you can take your defensive Shell Drill to a whole new level! The Jayhawks rapidly shuffle through multiple actions to defend, such as down screens, staggers, back screens and more. You'll also see how you can implement the Mover/Blocker offense to improve your defense versus screens.

Coach Self adds in a progression that teaches players how to double the post with both of their bigs. This is carried into a 5-on-5 drill that challenges the defense to trap the post and scramble back to match-ups when the ball is passed out and quickly reversed. These post double concepts are further supported with Self explaining his decision making for when to trap based on the scouting report. He also breaks down the details on the white board for denying the low post entry through multiple scenarios.

Inbound Plays & 5-on-5

Add five inbound plays to your playbook that will help you win critical games in crunch time. KU rehearses four baseline inbound plays that can deliver quality scoring looks at the rim or from 3-point range. You will also see how to inbound the ball from the sideline with a play that can flow right into your own catalog of quick-hitters. Coach Self also uses the whiteboard to demonstrate defensive tactics versus baseline inbound plays. These strategies will help you eliminate weak-side layups and fight through screen-the-screener actions.

Lastly, the Kansas players demonstrate how to put all these breakdown drills together with a 5-on-5 segment called "Blockout Break". This is a great way to apply the individual tactics and techniques you teach through drill segments into more realistic game-like applications. This is your chance to witness one of the top programs in college basketball at work in practice! Don't miss out on adding quality drills and tactics from Bill Self to your own coaching arsenal.
