The success of any basketball team is rooted in its ability to execute the fundamentals. In this clinic presentation, University of Colorado head coach Tad Boyle details drills that work the necessary skills for individual and team fundamentals. These are the same drills that Coach Boyle uses with his teams that consistently puts them in contention for the Pac-12 year in and year out.
This video is divided up between individual warm-up and skill drills, and full- & half-court team drills.
Individual Drills
Coach Boyle believes in keeping practices engaging by varying the types of warm-ups he uses to begin each practice. Each warm-up has an emphasis, that he explains, which will shape the type of practice that will be held. From full-court warm-ups to more individual focused drills, Boyle shares his favorites in this part of the clinic. The Chair Drill works on ball handling and varying the types of finishes players will make in games and is a great way to get blood pumping for a strong practice.
Want to have your players value rebounding? Coach Boyle shares an extremely tough and competitive rebounding drill that will have your players crashing the boards with reckless abandonment!
Known for his team's defense, Boyle also shares great 1-on-1 multi-purpose drills that work on both sides of the ball, as well as a drill to develop strong close-out to 1-on-1 skills.
5-on-5 Team Drills
In this section of the presentation, Coach Boyle shifts his focus to 5-on-5 full- and half-court drills. From the traditional build-up transition drills, Boyle adds a defensive mindset "twist" to the way the drill is scored. You will get multiple drills that work both sides of the transition game. The Perfect Possession drill will create toughness in your defense as they fight to get perfect stops in this timed and scored defensive 5-on-5 game.
If you want to emphasize ball movement and making the extra pass, Coach Boyle explains the Assist Game that will get your players to value making the extra pass by putting stipulations on your team.
